Albert Einstein Quote

Quote

“Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.” – Albert Einstein

I think a lot of quotes from famous people are overrated and not very unique but I really do appreciate this one from Einstein.  Measles thankfully is a preventable disease with vaccination.  Maybe someday humanity will move beyond its petty squabbles and not suffer from the disease of nationalism.

The way I see it nobody has a choice where in the world they’re born so its kind of pointless to have such an irrational attachment to they country in which you live.  Pride in one’s country if you’ve been a part of the accomplishment is great.  For things that occurred before your birth, however, what reason do you have to be proud?  Without any involvement directly or indirectly it seems kind of silly for me to be proud of something like America’s landing on the moon in 1969.

Much worse is overpowering nationalism and belief that one’s country is superior to any other country.  Countries are temporary organizations of groups of people.  I really wish we could be more united as a species.  I probably should have been born further in the future.

War is Peace.  Freedom is Slavery.  Ignorance is Strength.

We have always been at war with eastasia.
