I came across Zompist.com, the site of Mark Rosenfelder, looking for book recommendations that would be similar to Snow Crash and was captivated enough to spend the next hour and a half reading through his vision of the future embodied in the human Incatena. After finishing the book I was reading at the time, the good old Hitchiker’s Guide, I bought his ebook Against Peace and Freedom from Amazon. As an ebook it’s only $4 so help the author out please. I’m looking forward to the time when there’s simply a donate button on the last page of ebooks where you choose how much to pay after reading through the book but we’re not there yet.
The Incatena, a interplanetary quasi-government spanning 50 light years and 100 worlds is probably on par with the future if we don’t discover faster than light travel. I’d recommend checking out the site first and reading up a bit on his idea of humanity’s colonization of the stars. Rosenfelder’s vision is quite different than most other space science fiction in that it’s realistic. There are no miraculous inventions that allow us to travel quickly between the stars or even communicate at faster than the speed of light. This is the future as if our physics today stand true and it’s a pretty good bet if you ask me. Continue reading
